Summer Camps

The Batter’s Box, Connecticut’s oldest baseball and softball training facility is offering a one week baseball camp for Wallingford-Yalesville Little League during summer vacation. It doesn’t matter what age we are as baseball players, practice makes perfect. In a game where it’s hard to achieve success because the odds are against you – preparation and practice can go a long way. What type of baseball player are you? Are you looking to grow and mature as a ball player? Are you determined to work hard and develop to become a better ballplayer? This camp will instruct and critique players in all areas of the game. The Batter’s Box staff is determined to teach, assist and help each player better themselves as an individual and ballplayer. It has been said that athlete’s rise to the challenges at hand. The truth behind that is, athletes prepare themselves for the challenges they may face.

Preparation is the key to success. YOUR PREPERATION STARTS NOW!

Areas of Camp Instruction

HITTING MECHANICS:

LOWER BODY: The most underdeveloped aspect of most swings. This limits power and pulling ability. Prober footwork and legwork as well as positioning will be taught.

SWING: Learning to stay through the ball develops bat control and the ability to hit to all fields.

EYE POSITIONING: Teaches the eyes and the head proper movement for inside and outside pitches allowing the use of all fields.

MENTAL ASPECTS: Teaching pitch selection through pitch counts and pitcher’s patterns. Proper preparation before you step into the batter’s box.

THROWING/PITCHING:

Before we learn how to pitch, proper throwing mechanics are a must. Good, solid mechanics will greatly contribute to the health of the arm, so the drills in this program are designed to maximize the entire body.
• Work on proper grip
• Proper arm positioning
• Work on developing arm strength
• Balance points, leg stride

INFIELD/OUTFIELD

We begin with the proper footwork when fielding either a groundball or a fly ball. From there, we move to delivering the baseball with the proper footwork and arm swing.
• Glove Skills/Proper Mechanics
• 1st step explosiveness
• Linear/Lateral Movements
• Game Situations

SPEED/AGLILITY, CONDITONING

Players will gain confidence by building a foundation of athletic skills, knowledge and discipline that will allow them to move, think, train and perform like elite athletes.
• Replication of Speed & Power
• Increased Speed of Movement
• Increased Joint Stability and Optimal Joint Mobility
• Better balance: Quicker and responsive Righting Reflexes, equilibrium and Control of Center of Gravity (COG)
